I agree with Bill Maher. The Coronavirus should be the “Chinese Virus”.

Oh my God, I am about to do something that I have never done before. I am going to be writing a blog where I publicly let the world know two things:

  1. I occasionally watch Real Time with Bill Maher
  2. I actually agree with him for once.

On a recent episode of the HBO political talk show, Maher actually agreed with President Donald Trump on the idea that the Coronavirus (Covid-19) should be called the “Chinese Virus”. While Maher didn’t mention the President by name, he is taking a talking point that the President has been saying for weeks.

“‘What if people hear Chinese virus and blame China?’ The answer is we should blame China. We can’t afford the luxury anymore of non-judginess towards a country with habits that kill millions of people,”

Maher stated in his monologue that the world will always have people who will be racist, but calling Viruses by their origin has been a thing we’ve done for decades, if not longer. Now is not the time to get offended by calling the Chinese Virus by where it came from…China.

The fact that people are offended (and it generally isn’t even Chinese people who are) by the fact that we are calling the Chinese Virus by that name. I, and many others, wouldn’t even be opposed to calling it the Wuhan Virus.

“It scares me that there are people out there who would rather die of the virus than call it by the wrong name,” he said. “This isn’t about vilifying a culture. This is about facts.”

Here is the fact of the matter: Calling the virus the “Coronavirus” has actually done more damage to Corona Beer than calling it the “Chinese/Wuhan Virus” would ever do to China or Chinese people.

I agree with Bill Maher (this sentence will come back to haunt me).
